A Total of 8,59,376 Electric Two Wheelers Sold in the Last Year!
According to the latest report sourced from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) about the sale of electric vehicles in India, there has been a significant increase of 49.25% in sales during the preceding calendar year, 2023. The report provides a breakdown of EV sales across various categories, shedding light on the growing popularity and adoption of electric vehicles in the country’s automotive market.
- Two-wheelers: 6,31,464 units in 2022 to 8,59,376 units in 2023, marking a growth of 36.09%
- Three-wheelers: 3,52,710 units in 2022 to 5,82,793 units in 2023, reflecting a growth of 65.23%
- Commercial Vehicles: 2,649 units in 2022 to 5,673 units in 2023, showing a significant growth of 114.16%
- Passenger Vehicles: 38,240 units in 2022 to 82,105 units in 2023, demonstrating a remarkable growth of 114.71%
- Total EV Sales: From 10,25,063 units in 2022 to 15,29,947 units in 2023, resulting in an overall growth of 49.25%
Moreover, in an effort to accelerate the adoption of environmentally friendly transportation options, the Government of India has taken proactive steps to promote the widespread use of electric vehicles. These measures encompass a range of incentives, such as reducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on electric vehicles and chargers/charging stations to a mere 5%. Additionally, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has introduced distinctive green license plates specifically designated for battery-operated vehicles, accompanied by exemptions from permit requirements to streamline the regulatory process. Furthermore, states have been encouraged to waive road tax on electric vehicles, alleviating the initial financial burden for consumers and fostering a more sustainable automotive landscape across the nation.
